The paper examines the ceramic assemblage from the Khumara fortified settlement which is one of the most wellknown medieval fortresses in the northern Caucasus. It analyzes materials from the excavations conducted by the Karachaevo expedition of the Institute of Archaeology (RAS) in 2007-2017. Predominance of imported amphora fragments is a remarkable feature of the examined assemblage. The composition of the transport amphorae is characteristic of the sites dating to the 8th - first half of the 9th centuries. The technological analysis of the local ceramics reveals homogeneity of pottery traditions based on which kitchenware and tableware were made.
