Methodology and research methods. The method of linguistic description was employed to justify the dictionary type and represent the structure of the semantic field Painting. Field analysis was applied to examine the vocabulary of English painting used in the educational context. The method of lexicographic description of linguistic units was used in the dictionary design. Research results. When developing the dictionary concept, a set of practical tasks aimed at its subsequent implementation was solved: principles for selecting lexical units were defined, a vocabulary list was compiled, the structure of the semantic field Painting was revealed, its semantic components were described, the dictionary’s macrostructure was developed, and the microstructure of the dictionary entry, containing both linguistic and linguacultural information, was presented. The English-Russian Learners’ Dictionary of Painting with Reference Materials systematizes and presents English vocabulary on the topic in an accessible, educationally oriented lexicographic form for students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages. The dictionary serves as an educational, explanatory, translation (bilingual), and reference dictionary. It belongs to the ideographic type of dictionaries, as it reflects the lexical and semantic field of Painting in a general educational context. The dictionary contains seven semantic microfields and reference materials with the names of galleries, famous artists, and their paintings. Conclusion. The dictionary is being developed within the context of contemporary trends in linguistics and lexicography. The concept of the dictionary is based on the key tenets of ideographic lexicography: the grouping of words by conceptual and semantic features, and the systematic and hierarchical organization of units.
