Lemnos is one of the prominent and significant islands in the Aegean Sea. During the 2nd and 1st millennia BCE, the island experienced several changes in its resident tribes due to migration processes and con-quests. In ancient Greek conceptions regarding the name and change of the population on Lemnos, there is no unified tradition. Moreover, various ancient authors contradict one another concerning the genealogical origins of the population on Lemnos, its name, and its relation to other peoples in the region. This article proposes a recon-struction of the evolution of perceptions regarding the changes and name of Lemnos’s population. It presents schemes illustrating population changes as described by Homer and Herodotus. Additionally, it analyzes the issue of identifying the Sintians with the Pelasgians, Synths, and Thracians, as well as the connection between percep-tions of the island’s population and the “Lemnian deeds”.
