The present article is devoted to the characterization of scholarly research concerning the history of housing policy reforms during the so-called “Great Decade” of N.S. Khrushchev (1953–1964). A comprehensive anal-ysis of these works allows for the identification of the most distinctive features of the Soviet political leadership’s hous-ing policy during this specific period in the functioning of the Soviet state, thereby facilitating the determination of its particular characteristics and its qualitative distinction from other stages in the country’s socio-political history. In the course of the author’s analysis of the scientific literature on the history of housing policy during the reign of N.S. Khrush-chev, it was revealed that it went through several stages in its development and was a kind of mirror image of the political line of the leadership of the Central Committee of the CPSU in the implementation of social policy. The result of the state housing policy was the provision of tens of millions of Soviet citizens with relatively comfortable, free housing, at the same time with extremely low consumer qualities. In Russian historiography, politics of this kind today arouses not only legitimate interest, but also engenders ongoing debates and discussions that persist to this day.
