Introduction: the article discusses some of the powers of individual operational units of the internal affairs bodies (to counter extremism, to control drug trafficking) in the implementation of administrative supervision of persons released from prison. Materials and methods: the legal basis of the study was made up of legislative acts in the field of crime prevention and departmental normative legal acts of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia regulating the activities of internal affairs bodies for the prevention of crimes and offenses. The methodological basis of the research was general scientific and special methods of scientific cognition, such as formal - logical, systemic, structural - functional, comparative - legal and others. The Results of the study: the analysis of the regulatory framework regulating the activities of anti - extremism and drug trafficking units showed insufficient regulation of their powers to carry out operational and preventive control over persons under administrative supervision. Findings and Conclusions: it is proposed to introduce amendments and additions to the regulatory legal acts regulating the activities of anti - extremism and drug control units in terms of specifying their powers to carry out preventive work with persons under administrative supervision who have committed crimes in the field of drug trafficking, terrorist nature and extremist orientation.
