About some problems of teaching the discipline “Contemporary dance” in Russian choreographic pedagogy

The article examines the problem of teaching the discipline “Modern Dance”, which is introduced into the systems of additional, pre-professional and professional choreographic education. The author considers various interpretations of the term “modern dance”, analyzes the place and meaning of this discipline, and also considers the program content and teaching methods. The author focuses on the analysis of modern dance techniques that are studied in choreographic educational institutions in the world practice, and considers the need for their use in Russian choreographic education. The author analyzes a number of problems associated with the lack of highly professional teachers and suggests ways to solve these problems in the process of professional choreographic education.
