The article demonstrates the history of translations of A. S. Pushkin’s works into the Buryat language and highlights the significance of these translations for the develop-ment of Buryat culture. The author identifies a pattern of engaging with translations of Pushkin’s epic works during the formative period of prose in Buryat literature. The study also addresses the loss of translated texts created in Latin script (1931–1939) from the cultural heritage. A corpus of translated Pushkin poetry is systematically organized, and regularities in the translation of his lyric poetry are revealed. Initially, samples of landscape and free-dom-themed lyrics were translated, followed by philosophical and love poetry. When examining individual translations, the study raises the issue of dialogue between West-ern and Eastern cultures. Lexical layers are identified that activate specific contexts of national culture.
