About perspectives in selection of self-fertile biotypes during breeder and foundation seed growing of sunflower varieties

We conducted our researches in 2016-2019 on fields of OOO NPO “Triumph”, Matveevo-Kurgansky district of Rostov region, and in 20172019 on fields of the V.S. Pustovoit All-Russian Research Institute of Oil Crops (VNIIMK), Krasnodar. The purpose of the research is to study a structure of a population of seven sunflower varieties by selffertility and to estimate a possibility to improve the variety Dobrynya by this trait. We estimated selffertility of 202 progenies of selected individual plants from foundation sowings of the variety Dobrynya. We isolated five plants before flowering in each plot of a nursery of progeny estimation. There was no extra pollination. A level of self-fertility we determined by a rate between amount of formed seeds with pollination under isolators and their amount with open pollination multiplied by 100. Self-fertility of the studied sunflower varieties VNIIMK 100, Skormas, Enisey, Kulundinsky 1, SPK, Belochka, and Dobrynya is at a low level and equal to 6...
