The papers focuses upon possible ways of applying digital technologies of textological work to F.M. Dostoevsky’s draft manuscripts and digital presentation thereof on the website of the United Writers’ Archive. Based on the questioning of traditional practices of facsimile and transcription editions of author’s manuscripts, the prospects of using digital methods of manuscript representation are substantiated, allowing to eliminate contradictions between facsimile and transcription in the established edition approaches. An innovative method of creating a diplomatic transcription of Dostoevsky’s draft manuscripts by means of electronic image processing is proposed. The essence of this method consists in transcribing the text while fully preserving the facsimile image of the page, the location of all entries, drawings, calligraphic droppings, punctuation marks, lines of underscores and strikethrough left by the hand of the writers. A step-by-step procedure for performing digital diplomatic transcription is outlined and problem “zones” arising in its process are designated. This technique, focused on the publication of Dostoevsky’s draft autographs on the website of his digital archive, allows one to combine a facsimile image of the manuscript, demonstrating the writer’s multidimensional ideography and spatial construction of all graphics within a specific page, and a transcription of verbal signs, facilitating the perception and understanding of verbal information. Such a textual model helps clarify the dynamics of the author’s creative work, immersion in a multidimensional semiotic system of “maturation” of the poetics and meanings of the work, the stages of which are revealed by verbal and non-verbal signs of draft manuscripts.
