The author substantiates the thesis that the Predicates "library-information" and "information-library" that have been widely used in the last 20 years in relation to various realities of library reality are incorrect neither in essence nor according to the rules of term formation. Library phenomena fit into the field of social science, and more specifically into the field of sociology. In the structure of the sociological Sciences, library science occupies its own niche in the block of related document communication disciplines: biblioculturology, documentology, nookommunication, book studies, bibliography, archives, and Museum studies. The library performs its informational function indirectly - through the documents accumulated in its collection. Computer science has genetic links with library Science, as it grew primarily from Document Science, library Science, and bibliography Science. A solid assimilation by the library community of the concept of the library as essentially a social Institution should eliminate distortions in the theoretical understanding of the library's essence and the following practical recommendations in all areas of Organization, Methodology, educational Process, and basic library Terminology.
