On semantics and functional potential of coordinate conjunctions

Бесплатный доступ

Coordinate conjunctions behave differently in coordinate units with homogeneous and non-homogeneous parts. In compound sentences with homogeneous parts, they mark a single generic concept or, in their unity, create a complex view of some event. Components of such units are linearly reversible, and the conjunction is the single carrier of a certain syntactic semantic. In sentences with non-homogeneous parts, these relations stem from the correlation of the substantial content of their components. To solve the problem of the variety and roles of connection via conjunctions, a functional-semantic approach to the analysis of the system of coordinate conjunctions may be productive. The semantic of coordinate conjunctions and their potential functions (as distinctors or fixators, their synonymity in the presence of concretizers, the neutralization of their semantic in the presence of qualifiers) can be described only with consideration of their context.
