On the sense of reading and the importance of reading

The author determines the value of reading and the ability to read. The author identified meanings of reading, which prevent regerding this phenomenon only as a tool for extracting information and knowledge. It is suggested to regerd reading as the process of creating personal knowledge at the moment of effort to overcome the obstacle of the text, and the ability to read as the criterion of human education. The article deals with six detailed basic meanings of reading as a basic cultural skill. The article provides the elements of the author's method of teaching reading in elementary school. The author proves that reading should be considered as an art, the mastery of which must be devoted to a long-time period without any shortenings.
