The object of the research is the protest movement in Krasnoyarsk during the First Russian Revolution. Research methods: analysis of archival materials, memoirs, verification method, comparative-historical, comparative-legal, problem-chronological, systemic, logical research methods. The paper deals with the debatable issues of historiography, dedicated to the strike of the workers of the Krasnoyarsk main railway workshops and the locomotive depot on January 17, 1905; key conditions, causes, stages of preparation and conduct of the strike of the workers of the Krasnoyarsk main railway workshops and the locomotive depot on January 17, 1905. In scientific literature, the strike is mentioned fragmentarily. Despite the fact that the strike was positioned as a response of the Krasnoyarsk workers to the events of January 9, 1905 in St. Petersburg, in fact it was being prepared in advance. According to the goals and objectives for the bulk of the strikers, the strike was of an economic nature. The anti-government slogans, revolutionary songs and proclamations of revolutionary content that sounded during the action gave it a political entourage. According to the authors, the strike on January 17, 1905 showed the unpreparedness of the working class of Krasnoyarsk for active anti-government actions. At the beginning of 1905, revolutionary sentiments among the railway workers were still weakly spread. Therefore, it can be considered the beginning of a revolution in Krasnoyarsk only with a big stretch.
