Theoretical aspects of the formation of the Earth's structure, the development of internal convective processes that determine the movement of lithospheric plates and the origin of earthquake sources are discussed. Possible ways to obtain quantitative patterns characterizing processes within the earth are considered.The analysis made it possible to give an explanation in terms of modern mechanics why reaching a critical state leads to the occurrence of destruction at the source in a dynamic mode, and not in a quasi-static one.At the same time, the authors build their arguments adhering to the theoretical views of Academician S.S. Grigoryan on problems of global geodynamics.
