On acoustic efficiency of seismic vibrators (review)

This paper describes the traditional field of application of seismic vibrators when studying the Earth’s crust. The examinations of seismic and acoustic signals carried out by different authors are analysed separately. A critical consideration is given to propagation of infrasonic signals from the seismic vibrator over large distances: a) in the troposphere; b) in the stratosphere. Ionospheric response to the acoustical action of seismic vibrator when performing the Doppler radio sounding of the ionosphere is analysed, too. Given here are the estimates of penetration of acoustic radiation from the seismic vibrator SV-100 to ionospheric heights. We analyze radiation spectra of vibrators SV-100 and SV-40, seasonal dependence of their amplitude-frequency characteristics, and methods for its decreasing.
