The article investigates the problem of the term ἐνυπόστατος interpretation by pre-Chalcedonian theologians. The author proposes a new reading of already known texts, that deal with questions of triadology and use ἐνυπόστατος in the meaning which is differs from the later one. The author analyzes the cases of using this term from Origen to Cyril of Alexandria and comes to the conclusion that by ἐνυπόστατος one should means first of all something that really exists. In order to emphasize this value, the authors of pre-Chalcedonian period use the conjunction enhypostatos-true as well as the opposition ἐνυπόστατος / ἀνυπόστατος. The indicated opposition should be considered in the context of the theory of the proforic logos. The enhypostatos logos has its own being unlike the proforic logos which don’t have one. To this being of enhypostatos logos the status of true reality is attributed. The author proposes to name this meaning as “aletic” and distinguish it from the meaning that the term ἐνυπόστατος acquired in the epoch of Christological controversy.
