The paper considers various aspects of translating poetry. The poem by M. Tsvetaeva written as a homage to Anna Akhmatova is subjected to analysis. The analysis of the Russian verse and its English counterpart is based on the criterion of equivalence. The latter is an umbrella term encompassing multiple kinds of equivalence achieved on different levels, namely, those of denotation, connotation, textual norms, pragmatics and aesthetic forms-80.
