The article examines Vladimir Solovyov’s interpretation of F. I. Tyutchev’s poetry based on the philosopher’s key thesis about the coincidence of the poet’s mind and feeling, which suggests that the poet expresses the rational truths in poetic images. Following this thesis, Solovyov has to assume that Tyutchev asserts the ideal meaning, truth and beauty of the world in his poetry. At the same time, Solovyov considers Tyutchev to be the exponent of the world soul, which is not the ideal meaning, but the chaotic and dynamic basis of the world. Trying to reconcile this, Solovyov argues that Tyutchev depicts the ugly as beautiful from the point of view of the interaction of two independent ontological principles - chaos and meaning, in which meaning gradually overcomes chaos. The article challenges this conclusion of Solovyov and shows that it does not follow from Tyutchev’s poetry. The article also discusses that Solovyov’s idea of the ultimate triumph of meaning over chaos finds more convincing philosophical justification in the philosophy of all-unity, rather than dual ontology, and that the philosopher’s account on Tyutchev’s poetry is a milestone on the path of ongoing transformation of his thought.
