About halophyte use for rehabilitation lands with salt-carbohydrate contamination and fodder production

The authors consider the problem of halophyte use for stable development of viable agricultural farm in world arid zones. The possibilities of halophyte different species for restoration of degradative lands including salina and petroleum contamination, and also for production of energized fodder with high protein content, grain forage, medicinal and oil-bearing crops were discussed. The methods were described, which developed in V.R.Wil'yams All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Fodder for desalination of a second time saline soil by means of Kochia scoparia, Suaeda arcuata, S. accuminata, Glycyrrhiza glabra. The crops are presented, which may be origin material for breeding. It was shown, that subsequent tasks in the area of halophyte cultivation are mobilization of world genetic recourses, formation their genofond, creation of special edaphic varieties, elaboration of cultivation technology, processing and utilization of plants-halophytes.
