The article examines the origins of social ideal in the Russian philosophy in the context of the transformation of mental and cultural limits of the Russian society. The author considers the views on the social ideal of a number of Russian thinkers of the 19th -early 20th centuries: L.P. Karsavin, A.N. Trubetskoy, A.N. Afanasyev, V.G. Belinsky, K.P. Pobedonostsev, I.V. Kireyevski, A.S. Khomyakov, P.L. Lavrov, F.M. Dostoevsky, K.D. Kavelin.
