The paper summarizes the results of the study devoted to Maikop-Novosvobodnaya ceramics, using A. A. Bobrinsky’s methodology and the microscope. It presents characteristics of raw materials, design methods and treatment of surfaces.A special focus of the paper is the use of turntables by ancient potters. Such potswith corresponding imprints were recorded for the first time by A. A. Bobrinsky andR. M. Munchaev in 1966 among flat-bottomed vessels. Presently the list of pots bearingmarks of turntables has been expanded. The paper describes an experiment made by A. S. Kizilov to model a Maikop pot and record marks of its pulling around withouta fixed axle of rotation in a non-steady rotation mode. During the experiment hard dataon marks were obtained, proving that Maikop pot-makers used turntables with a fixedaxle of rotation to manufacture not only flat-bottomed pots but also round-bottomedones
