Image of the Alar Buryats of Cisbaikalia (on the materials of the researchers of the XVIII-beginning of the XX centuries)

On the basis of the early materials of some researchers of the XVIII-beginning of the XX centuries the article considers the features of the ethnic image of the Western Buryats. The ethno-territorial group of the Alar Buryats settled on the southern left bank of the Angara River is presented as an example. The purpose of the article is to show the image of the Buryats of the Cisbaikalia in the XVIII-beginning of the XX centuries, which was formed by the Russian and foreign researchers in the course of their research. Only some of them are presented out of the large mass of the works available. The author comes to the conclusion that the image of the Buryats and their life activities in the above-mentioned materials should be considered quite objective confirmed by the results of modern research.
