The article is a study of the image and role of chief prosecutors of the Duma monarchy in Russian historiography of the Soviet period (1990s - Present). The purpose of the work is to analyze currently existing works related to the activities of the last chief prosecutors. The research methodology is based on the principles of historical-comparative and historical-typological methods. Personalities of the heads of the Department of Orthodox Religion were studied very incompletely. However, while in the Soviet period they were mentioned just in works on political history, at the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, they began to arouse interest as individuals or in the context of Church history. The role of G. Rasputin in their fate is also reviewed; the possibility of his influence is questioned.
