Background and stages of renovation split in the Russian Orthodox Church in the 1920s, peculiar features of this process in the Urals region are considered. Special attention is paid to the role of bodies of the Soviet state (mainly Joint State Political Directorate) in provoking and support of this split; the results and consequences of the split for the fortune of Orthodox religion and church in the USSR are analyzed.
