This article shows the development of gastronomic culture of the Chinese family after the adoption of the program of openness and reforms. The phenomenological approach to gastronomic culture of the Celestial Empire allows distinguishing the singular and the general in the being of the concept. In the Chinese tradition, there is a special attitude to food as one of the important values of life. The historical memory of the people preserves the memory of the difficulties associated with malnutrition, hunger. Over time, Chinese families have improved their financial situation, and the issue of insufficient food is no longer worth it. However, there is still a gap between rural and urban levels of food consumption. The urban family has more opportunities for gastronomic practices due to the variety of food available. The modernity of the Celestial Empire is also characterized by new gastronomic realities: the gradual formation of restrained consumption of fast food, awareness of the need for careful attitude to products. In accordance with new trends, the culture of family nutrition is also in a state of renewal of meanings.
