The article examines the features of the interaction of the individual and society through the phenomenon of social loneliness. The conditions of occurrence of this social problem are analyzed. The origins of the ideological position in which the priority dominant is the inner world of the individual are determined. The components of the philosophical concept of self-isolation presented in the works of S. Kierkegaard are highlighted. The interrelation of the ethical interpretation of S. Kierkegaard's personality with the traditions of ancient philosophy and the philosophy of Enlightenment is revealed. The study interprets the problem of religious exclusion from society and considers the corresponding vectors of personal development. The correlation of emotional perception of social reality and rational interpretations of an individual's interaction with the social system is highlighted. The emphasis is placed on the religious perception of the world and the conformity of moral principles to Christian values. New trends in the understanding of the theme in ХХ-century European philosophy are traced.
