The article considers the evolution of the image of Afanasy Nikitin in Russian literature of the XIX-XXI centuries - from the first historical reconstructions to postmodern experiments. In the novels of Lazhechnikov and Kukolnik, the Russian traveler became an exponent of ideal religious and political attitudes, while in modem literature for children, references to Afanasy Nikitin are associated with solving some topical political problems.
