Image of Andrey Bogolyubsky in the Kiev code of XII century

This article is devoted to an image of Saint blessed Andrey Yurievich Bogolyubsky, the prince who played a significant role in an eminence of Northeast Russia and transformation of Vladimir-on-Klyazma into its center, according to the Kiev code in Ipatyevsky chronicle. For the detection of specifics of an image of Andrey Bogolyubsky in the chosen code which is along with the Suzdal code is a source of the main data on the prince both other codes and literary monuments are attracted. In the Kiev code military merits of the prince are emphasized, absolutist and in other examples peaceful aspirations are fixed, church building activity is noted. The source made by the person sympathetic to the prince, used in the Kiev code, contrasts with the fragments describing the conflict of the prince with Smolensk princes Rostislavichy, edited by the redactor of the code abbot of the Vydubitsky monastery Moses. The image of the prince is lowered in them. The interpretation of the prince’ activities in these episodes as a consequence of negative attitude to him, conflicts to those moral and religious characteristics which are accented in the Story about his killing. Attraction of materials of other codes containing the details which are absent in the Kiev code, adds new features to a literary portrait of the prince, change the idea of him. In the «Legend About Miracles of the Blessed Virgin of Vladimir Icon» (XII century), in the text of Life of the prince (XVIII century) and in the «The legend of Bogolyubovy monastery» (XIX century) details of his private life were included. The image characteristics of Andrey Bogolyubsky restored according to the Kiev code, are not exhaustive and broadcast only part of his many-sided activity, fatal for the history of Russia.
