The image “blue sky” at the verbal and iconic levels of British and American rock-discourse

The article offers a comparative analysis of the image “blue sky” in British and American cultures. The given research has been carried out based on the verbal and iconic levels of British and American rock-discourse. One of the principal methods to do it is cognitive discourse analysis as it allows studying the phenomenon with regard to the specifics of culture. Thus, the author provides examples of psychophysical influences and lexicographic data of the blue sky. Interestingly, this research has shown both similarities in forming the image of “blue sky” in the studied discourses and linguocultural specificity, which is discussed in detail. In general, the author arrives at the conclusion that “blue sky” in each discourse is often connected with positive changes, serenity, psychoemotional wellbeing. The results of this article may be of interest to researchers in the fields of cognitive linguistics, discourse theory, lexicology, etc.
