The conceptual apparatus of dogmatic theology is universal, but, on the other hand, it undergoes in history both the accumulation of methods of its application (to various areas of theology, which consistently raise extreme questions before church thought), and the replenishment by new concepts or a wider and deeper use of existing ones. The patristic concept of “mode of action”, uncommon in the period of 4th century (the fathers of the Cappadocians) and gradually increased its value by the time of the VII century. (from St. Maximus the Confessor), is able to acquire an even more significant status in ecclesiology, which poses extreme questions about the Church in the face of the Church itself today. This value is connected with the role of theological understanding of historical processes in modern ecclesiology, which are formed by the subjects of history - the hypostases and hypostasis macro-formations. The concept of “mode of action” has a hypostatic character, by virtue of which it can be an important characteristic of such processes. The article deals with full and partial synonyms of this concept, such as “image of Revelation”, “deed”, “arbitrariness”, “conscious choice”, etc., denotes the specificity of each of them. The static and historical aspects of this concept are considered, as well as its application in relation to various subjects of the historical process: Persons of the Holy Trinity, the Church, human being.
