The article examines the transformation of the teacher's image as a key figure in the literature about the school and education in the second half of the 20th century. In particular, in the cultural consciousness of the 1950-1990s, the downward trend is evident in the representation of a «format» teacher - moving from an archetype of a teacher-God to desacralization of a teacher's status and school phobia. Analyzing the works by V. Tendryakov, Yu. Polyakov, T. Tolstaja, A. Ivanov and other writers, the author notes, that in the country of universal literacy, a teacher has stopped to be a missionary, «a gardener, an architect and a commander» (J. A. Comenius), and builds a new typology of the teacher according to this thesis: «Prometheus», «conceptual cracker», «overseer», «assistant professor», «imitation of the profession», «leader-careerist», «infantile teacher», etc. However, the loss of a social ideal and belief in the possibility of creating a «positively beautiful man» makes the writers look for the examples of an effective pedagogical impact of the growing consciousness beyond an official «format», meaning thereby the rejection of the standardization of a teacher's personality.
