In this article the passage from the Paedagogus (the Instructor ) by Clement of Alexandria (Paed. I, 6, 46, 3) is investigated. In the course of the investigation it is proved, that the words from this passage (ὁ πυρὸς διὰ πυρός «the wheat through fire») are not to be regarded as a key for understanding of Clement’s teaching about the resurrection, and it is disproved the opinion, that this author was under the Epicurean influence of language. The Alexandrian presbyter by using this wordplay aspired to attract his readers’ attention to his topic only – to the description of the celestial liturgy – and so was found to be a heritor of the Near-Eastern tradition to ornament a speech by puns, which make easier memorizing of the told.
