The article examines the historical and cultural background that determined the dialogic artistic, aesthetic, religious and philosophical positions of two prominent cultural figures of the 20th century: the artist of the Russian avant-garde V. N. Chekrygin and the famous representative of the Vienna School of Art History H. Siedlmayr. Most clearly their worldview similarity was manifested in the understanding of the image of the Cathedral as a symbol of harmony, spiritual unity, lost, in the opinion of both thinkers, by art and humanity in the pursuit of false values. From the point of view of comparative analysis, consensus and parallel aspects are revealed in the work of the Russian artist-thinker and the Austrian philosopher of art, as well as mental differences in their positions. The author concludes about the common origins of ideas and their figurative and symbolic embodiments in both thinkers, as well as the prevailing importance of Russian religious and philosophical thought for world culture in choosing the optimistic vector of its development in the future.
