The study is devoted to the historical analysis of the main principles of the educational policy of the PRC leadership in relation to national minorities. The article reveals that China's national policy towards non-Han peoples has deep roots and its basic principles were adopted as a basis in the context of the PRC. A special approach to the implementation of national policy was developed in the field of education, which was called “positive discrimination”. This article attempts to identify the main results of the educational policy of the PRC leadership in relation to small nationalities using the example of the first national autonomy - Inner Mongolia. The author suggests that the gradual curtailment of preferential policies is a natural result of the consolidation of China's small ethnic groups into a common nation.
