Education of the old Russian bishops (the close of the 10th century - the 1st third part of the 13th century)

Upbringing and education of the Russian episcopate has never appeared to be an independent scientific problem. In the meantime the knowledge of the intellectual preparation level of bishops could bring the researchers of the Russian Orthodox Church to a better understanding of the religious processes as well as the principles of organization and activities of the Church institutions. In the article presented there is an attempt to describe and analyze the overall level of literacy of the first Old Russian bishops.
