The author examines a number of studies by the British sociologist Frank Furedi related to the modern higher education in Europe and presented not only in the scientific press but also in the blogosphere. The works of the sociologist raise the issues of significant modifications in the processes of students’ socialization due to the change in culture and its transformation into a ‘culture of therapy’. In modern education, there are more and more traumatic elements for infantile and vulnerable boys and girls which lead to an active increase in demand for psychotherapeutic services. The author focuses on the positive and negative aspects of disseminating the university paternalism, concludes that it is necessary to devise the new educational strategies that develop the independence and self-sufficiency of modern students.
