Xylitol and ethanol production by strains of xylose assimilating yeast Pachysolen tannophilus with different ploidy

Microaerophilic fermentation of D-xylose by P. tannophilus isogenic strains with different ploidy was studied. In spite of the tendency to dissociation a diploid batch culture has accumulated xylitol (2,75 g l -1; 0,04 g g -1) and ethanol (0,64 g l -1; 0,17 g g -1) better than haploid one. The possibility of xylitol and ethanol producers on the base of P tannophilus collection cultures is discussed.
