A theoretical analysis of approaches to understanding the phenomenon of “educational environment” in psychological and pedagogical studies is presented. Existing approaches in the study of the educational environment are highlighted, among which are: systemic, mental-emotional, personality-oriented, local-poster approach. Key ideas in the understanding of the educational environment marked by the authors of approaches are presented. In the course of the theoretical analysis, the convergence of the categories “educational environment” and “educational space” is noted. The authors state the diversity in the interpretation of the concept of “educational space”, which leads to a “blurring” of the concept itself. The author agrees with the idea that education presupposes the systematic existence of specific semantic, content aspects of the emergence of man as a psychological system, and the formation of a multidimensional human world occurs as a result of the child's interaction with an adult and is the main “product” of mother, preschool and school education. In the authors' opinion, at the present time, psychological knowledge has approached a new understanding of the essence of man as a subject of psychological research, and the emerging shift in the sphere of educational paradigms allows bringing educational practice to the mode of innovative development. The article proposes an understanding of the educational space as a medium for the develop- ment and expansion of human capabilities as a psychological system. Representing a person as a complex, self-organizing, open to the nature, culture, social system, educational space can be understood as a complete, exhaustive set of conditions and circumstances, both physical and sociocultural, that open the possibilities for development, self-development and self- realization of the individual. The authors argue that the modern educational space of the university should presuppose the possibility to determine the content and forms of its education, since life itself puts the young man in front of the need to choose the forms of his education.
