The economic and social situation of the state is largely determined by the level of development of its education namely by quality of school and vocational training of young people, the number of graduates, the effectiveness of advanced training systems, etc. Since the fall of British colonialism the system of education in India has been and still is a problem for the government. This is evidenced by the specifics of its historical development and the features of the population and geography like the colonial past, the second place in population, the highness of polyethnic, the consequences of the caste system, etc. However, the government struggles with problems in the education sector and considers it as a strategic area of domestic policy. Even in the conditions of the global crisis India continues to increase its GDP and is one of the leading trading states. Education plays an important role in that progress. The peculiarity of Indian education is in its discreteness created by social and cultural differences of the regions, population, educational institutions, external conditions and worldview contradictions. The article deals with the identification of the historical fundamentals of this phenomenon and its impact on the educational situation in India as well as the anticipation of its consequences.
