The paper distinguishes between the spheres of influence of the Entente countries in the Ottoman Empire after World War I and the actions of French diplomacy, which led to getting the French mandate for Syrian vilayets. The emphasis is put on the Armistice of Mudros, which served as the starting point for the collapse of the Ottoman Porte. It is noted that the actual breakdown of the empire was carried out by the Entente countries on results of the agreement in San Remo and at the points of the Treaty of Sèvres. These events led to agreements between France and England, in the aftermath of which France won the mandate for Syrian vilayets of the Ottoman Empire. As part of the conducted research, the articles of the French mandate were translated into Russian. The present work is intended for specialists in the field of world history (of modern and contemporary times), Orientalist scholars and for all who are not indifferent to Middle Eastern studies.
