General cultural competence of students: state and prospects: on the materials of the subject Olympics for schoolchildren in art (world art culture)

The article analyzes the content characteristics of general cultural competence and the features of its formation and development within the framework of school education. Taking into account the challenges of modernity, the task of changing the educational paradigm is justified: from the utilitarian and pragmatic one, aimed at the formation of the individual as a functional unit in the production and consumption system, practical, focused on the development of a unique individuality, capable of creative and constructive activities. The analysis of the state of general cultural competence is carried out on the basis of the results of the subject Olympics (2017 -2018) for the schoolchildren who study art. Particular attention is paid to the contradictions that have been revealed in the school system that make it difficult to fully implement the pedagogical potential of subjects of artistic and aesthetic profile. Based on the analysis, a set of measures aimed at increasing the effectiveness of the teacher and educational institution in a given direction is proposed.
