Based on regional press materials, the author describes the new forms of citizens’ charitable assistance to tuberculosis patients in the 20th century for the first time. Public health protection in Grozny is insufficiently studied by Russian historians. There are no works on providing charitable assistance to the population of the city. The research summarizes the archival and newspaper materials related to civil initiatives of citizens involved in fundraising for TB patients. An attempt is made to reconstruct the initiatives of voluntary public medical organizations. The activities of the local Anti-Tuberculosis League are analyzed. The research demonstrates the relationships between medical community, government and city society concerning the prevention of lung diseases and medical treatment of patients. The author noted that charitable assistance was provided to all those in need without regard to religion and nationality.
