The article presents the philosophical analysis of the consumer society as a real social structure. It considers prerequisites and stages of its formation, as well as its typical features. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of problems of this society and the options for its further development. The author substantiates the opinion that the presence of diverse and conflicting views on the problems and prospects of the consumer society indicates the complexity of this phenomenon and the practical significance of its comprehension, as well as provides the essential theoretical methodological framework for the development of effective mechanisms to overcome the negative consequences associated with the evolution of the consumer society.
