In this article the role of practical phonetics in the system of teaching foreign languages is defined along with the main tasks to be accomplished throughout the period of pronunciation teaching. The existing institutional contexts and methods in teaching pronunciation are described, their advantages and disadvantages are laid out; the divisions of the phonetics course are suggested.
