Entering international economic environment requires of Russia to increase competitive ability of internal production and the protection of intellectual property rights. One of the ways to fulfill these tasks is in patenting new inventions. Some specific features of how to teach pupils and students the skills of invention are considered in this article, the recommendations for an exemplar course content are given, the provisions necessary for invention development are formulated.
