The article presents theoretical and practical material on motivating students to swimming lessons in higher educational institutions. The main reasons why students choose swimming for sports at the university are considered, and their fears immediately prior to the start of swimming classes are revealed. The study shows the students' attitude to this sport in the framework of physical education, their fears, as well as the skills that students received in the classroom.
