The review of activity of educational societies of the Lower Volga region at the end of the XIXth century: at the example of the Saratov Society of Fine Arts

The history of creation and activity of one of the educational societies of the Saratov province - the Society of Fine Arts are considered. The archive data, the records of the society’s meetings and the recollections of the epoch’s contemporaries are given. There is studied the previously unpublished data from the periodical press. It is concluded about the significance of the society’s work for the development of cultural life of Saratov at the end of the XIXth century and the Lower Volga region in general.
