The need to review works on the moral, religious, and theological education of deaf children writen in Russia prior to the Revolution of 1917 is dictated by the possibility that some of this work, which has largely been forgoten, is still relevant today. Contemporary practice on religious and moral education of deaf children is quite chaotic, marked by the absence of any systematic approach, and directed, primarily, by the enthusiasm of individual sign language instructors or clergymen. The experience of teachers and instructors at the pre-revolutionary St. Petersburg School for the Deaf, can, however, still be relevant in contemporary educational facilities. Their writen works can form the basis for new instructional manuals and methods of teaching basics of Orthodoxy, which are yet to be fully developed.
