A review of macro-and micro sociological theories of problematic alcohol consumption

The purpose of this article is to identify and review the modern macro- and micro-sociological theories applied for explanation of the alcohol abuse. Particular attention is paid to empirical verification of the theories or their elements in the context of the alcohol situation in Russia. The author considers the main features of modern macro-and micro- sociological theories and their application for explaining the problem of alcohol abuse.
