This article examines the unique position of A.P. Ivanov's novel «Stereoscope» in the literary system of the symbolist paradigm. Through the analysis of the factuality of the chronotope of the photographed world, the triad of the material-technical, value-aesthetic and mystical-metaphysical views of photography characteristic of this period is revealed. It is indicated that the novel became a catalyst for revealing the previously weakly manifested symbolist theory of photography in the critical response of M.A. Voloshin.
